Story
Welcome to the Art Factory – a unique space for visual arts, music, dance and the celebration of creativity.
This renovated industrial-style building offers an exhibition hall on the ground floor, where a rich program of exhibitions takes place throughout the year.
The first floor is shared by the music academy and the ballet class. The second floor is home to the painting academy and photography studio.
Opening ceremonies are held on the building's roof, where visitors can admire views of the city. A functional glass elevator provides access to each floor.
The art factory is not a reference to any specific building – it rather draws on details and elements typical of industrial lofts in New York and other American cities.
Main elements
Foldable building design: The building can be displayed in either open or closed form. In either case, the exterior appears as a whole and detailed, as if this dual function was part of the original design.
Functional elevator: The elevator is equipped with a mechanism that allows it to move up, down, or stop at any floor.
Industrial style windows: Industrial windows are created using an original technique using sections of garage rolling doors.
About the project
As a LEGO fan and designer, the idea of a repurposed building has always fascinated me. In this case, an old factory building has been transformed into an art center, with a variety of artistic activities taking place on different floors.
Four years ago, I submitted the first version of this design to LEGO Ideas under the title "The Art Centre". It successfully reached 10,000 backers, but did not make it to the review stage. Now, I have rebuilt it from the ground up, bringing in a number of improvements both aesthetically and functionally. For this Series 6, I have redesigned the columns, walkways and improved many parts compared to the Series 5 version. The final product also includes three new storage spaces below ground level, which can accommodate a variety of alternative art accessories.
